Up a Ladder

When Dad and Mom lived on Oak Street Sherlyn had been baby-sitting Dayna, Darlene and Anita. She was letting them play in the front yard and frequently looked out the door to keep an eye on them.

Sherlyn happened to notice several kids standing in the front yard and looking toward the roof. She asked what they were looking at and they replied, "Darlene." She rushed to where they were and there two-year-old Darlene stood on the steep roof of the house.

When Sherlyn saw Darlene on the roof she noticed that the men who had worked on the roof had left their ladder leaning against it. In a panic she took off as quickly as possible across the yard and up the ladder.

When Darlene saw Sherlyn running up the ladder she must have thought it was a game. She ran giggling toward the ladder and as they met at the top, Darlene giggled and dodged, as if to keep from being caught. Sherlyn said if she had not caught the skirt of Darlene's dress she would have run right off the roof.
