When Tyler was about five he started telling me an incident about an "old grandmother" he had seen one day. After listening attentively to his story I asked, "So, am I an old grandmother?" (As "Grandmother" is the name my grandchildren call me)
Tyler only hesitated a moment before replying, "I don't know. Take off your blouse and let me see."
Momentarily I sat in stunned silence after Tyler's statement. Then I reasoned with myself that, what children are saying is not always what we hear. So I asked, "So how are you going to tell whether I'm an "old grandmother" if I take off my blouse?"
In the seconds before Tyler's reply I cringed in dread though with slight anticipation of the reasoning I might hear. Then he replied with an exasperated sigh, "Uh Grandmother, you know how "old grandmothers" have that hangy down thing under here." as he flexed one arm and waved his other hand back and forth underneath to make the motion of loose skin swinging.
