Our Family

Our Family

Our firstborn child, it was a girl,
Her hair is long and thick.
She says it's caused by what she are,
When she was just a "chick."

Mom found her in the chicken yard,
With mess all on her face.
She says it's not bad eating,
But I hope she said the grace.

The second child of ours, we had,
Had pretty dark brown hair.
It's 'cause her sister washed it good,
With snuff, "Twas hard to bear."

When she'd get scared, what she would do,
Was really quite unique.
Her eyes would bug, then she'd drop down,
And crawl without a squeak.

And then we had another girl,
This one was the most timid.
She'd get real brave, go off to stay,
And get sick, you could depend on it.

Our number four surprised us,
When we'd go to get ice cream.
She'd disappear, then here she'd come,
With a can of Pork n Beans.

And then along came number five.
She once from bed was rejected.
T'was said, "You're dirty" but she replied,
"It's just I'm dark complected."

We had another baby.
You're right, another girl.
She had her Daddy's pretty blue eyes,
And blonde hair with lots of curls.

And then after a couple years,
We had, still one more yet.
"It is a girl!" somebody cried.
Those boys are hard to get.

This little girl had big brown eyes,
And a big, loud voice.
That made no difference, we loved her still.
Really, we had no choice.

And then before we knew it,
We were going to have another.
Do you think there's the slightest chance,
We'll get these girls a brother?

We really didn't think we could,
After all those girls, now seven.
But when it came, we were surprised!
It was a boy! Thank heaven!

When he was young, he was asked to keep,
His niece, a fine little lady.
"I can't." He said, as he went to play,
"I ain't built for feeding a baby."

And then we had another girl,
That's eight girls, don't you see?
This one, she stole her Daddy's heart.
She loved sitting on his knee.

We thought we'd probably had enough,
But then, what do you know?
Here came another boy along.
That made ten kids in a row.

This last boy can be hyper,
And he keeps Mom on her toes.
But we couldn't have done without him,
As everybody knows.

When we put them all together,
Two boys and those eight girls,
We're one big happy family.
But let's adopt another girl.

Our great big happy family,
Is as priceless as great pearls.
