It Happened In Pentecost! It Really Did!

The following story was shared with me by the late Rev. Frank Edgin.

In the early 1920's Brother Edgin had been having a brush arbor meeting with other trinity Pentecostal ministers. The brush arbor was being held in an area between two communities.

Being young in the ministry Brother Edgin had never heard the truth of Jesus Name baptism and the Oneness of the Godhead. He said he was really enthused with the revival and yielding to the Spirit.  Brother Edgin said there was a message in tongues and the interpretation was, "You have been baptized wrong. You should be buried in the Name of Jesus Christ as the apostles taught and practiced, for the remission of your sins."

Brother Edgin said he spent that night and the next day praying and studying.

Having nothing but a cheap Bible with no study helps, Brother Edgin asked God to help him see the truth. He said he lay on the floor and opened his Bible and it fell open to Acts 2:38. When he closed and reopened his it again it opened to Acts 8:15-16. Several times Brother Edgin would close and reopen his Bible and each time it would open to another scripture that shows where the apostles baptized in Jesus Name, Acts 10:48, Acts 19:5-6, Colossians 3:17

Brother Edgin was convinced that God had  given him this revelation but he purposed in his mind to keep it to himself.

The following night at the meeting Brother Edgin said The Spirit spoke again and said, "Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. Jehovah, the Almighty." He said the next day he was led to the scriptures that told the very thing.

The evangelist who was preaching the revival closed the meeting that night and said, "The spirit of the devil is too strong in this place for a revival."

Brother Edgin said he stood up on a pew and said, "Revival will start tomorrow night." " And start it did " he said.

When the week was over there were thirty men and women who wanted to be baptized in Jesus Name.

On Saturday night Brother  Edgin said he announced that there would be a baptismal service after Sunday School the following morning.

Brother Edgin said he prayed all through the Sunday morning service that God would send someone to baptize them all. He said after church he noticed a man coming down the old logging road carrying a Bible under his arm. He said he walked out to meet the man and asked, "Have you been baptized in Jesus Name.?" The man replied that he had. Brother Edgin said, "There are thirty-one of us who want to be baptized. Will you baptize us?" The man said, "I will baptize you and you can baptize the others." So Brother baptized thirty converts the same day he was baptized.

As told by the late Rev.C.E. George
