It Happened In Pentecost! It Really Did!

Several years ago a minister friend of mine was slightly obese and his wife was a little on the chubby side too. He told me that they decided to go on a starvation diet. (That's one where you can only eat the things you don't like.)

My friend said they had been doing well at dieting when someone brought them a pie, their favorite kind of pie. He said his wife  put the pie in the refrigerator for their children to eat.

Late that night the minister said his wife decided to vacuum the living room carpet. She thought her husband was in bed and he, thinking his wife was in bed sneaked into the kitchen.

When the minister's wife walked to the area of the living room nearest the kitchen to start vacuuming she noticed the refrigerator door standing open. Thinking that one of the children had failed to close it, she walked over to close it. But before she got to the door she noticed two big feet underneath the door.

As the minister's wife peeked over the door she saw her kneeling husband sheepishly looking up at her with the pie in his hands.

He said that after they stopped laughing they had a pie eating contest.

It Happened In Pentecost! It Really Did!

I told the story Brother Frank Edgin related to me about his revelation of and conversion to the One God and Jesus Name message. But his departure from this life was no less dramatic.

On the day of Brother Frank Edgin's death he called for me to come. When I arrived, all his family were gathered at his bedside and he was encouraging them to live for God.

After talking a few minutes Brother Edgin started looking toward the door and soon asked his son and me to help him over there. We helped him to the door and almost immediately a big smile spread over his face and he exclaimed, "There they come!" His son asked who and he replied, "You can't see them!" Then he asked to go back to his bed and he started encouraging his family again.

After Brother Edgin lay in his bed a few minutes a worried look came over his face and he requested to be taken to the door again. When he stood looking out he became excited and said, "They're almost here! It won't be long now!"

As we placed him back on the bed, Brother Edgin started telling each of his family and myself goodbye and admonishing us to be ready when our time comes. Then with a smile on his face, he folded his arms and closed his eyes in rest.

The funeral service of Brother Frank Edgin was like a revival service. It was charged by the power of God and filled with an air of expectancy.

It Happened In Pentecost! It Really Did!

The following story was shared with me by the late Rev. Frank Edgin.

In the early 1920's Brother Edgin had been having a brush arbor meeting with other trinity Pentecostal ministers. The brush arbor was being held in an area between two communities.

Being young in the ministry Brother Edgin had never heard the truth of Jesus Name baptism and the Oneness of the Godhead. He said he was really enthused with the revival and yielding to the Spirit.  Brother Edgin said there was a message in tongues and the interpretation was, "You have been baptized wrong. You should be buried in the Name of Jesus Christ as the apostles taught and practiced, for the remission of your sins."

Brother Edgin said he spent that night and the next day praying and studying.

Having nothing but a cheap Bible with no study helps, Brother Edgin asked God to help him see the truth. He said he lay on the floor and opened his Bible and it fell open to Acts 2:38. When he closed and reopened his it again it opened to Acts 8:15-16. Several times Brother Edgin would close and reopen his Bible and each time it would open to another scripture that shows where the apostles baptized in Jesus Name, Acts 10:48, Acts 19:5-6, Colossians 3:17

Brother Edgin was convinced that God had  given him this revelation but he purposed in his mind to keep it to himself.

The following night at the meeting Brother Edgin said The Spirit spoke again and said, "Jesus is God manifest in the flesh. Jehovah, the Almighty." He said the next day he was led to the scriptures that told the very thing.

The evangelist who was preaching the revival closed the meeting that night and said, "The spirit of the devil is too strong in this place for a revival."

Brother Edgin said he stood up on a pew and said, "Revival will start tomorrow night." " And start it did " he said.

When the week was over there were thirty men and women who wanted to be baptized in Jesus Name.

On Saturday night Brother  Edgin said he announced that there would be a baptismal service after Sunday School the following morning.

Brother Edgin said he prayed all through the Sunday morning service that God would send someone to baptize them all. He said after church he noticed a man coming down the old logging road carrying a Bible under his arm. He said he walked out to meet the man and asked, "Have you been baptized in Jesus Name.?" The man replied that he had. Brother Edgin said, "There are thirty-one of us who want to be baptized. Will you baptize us?" The man said, "I will baptize you and you can baptize the others." So Brother baptized thirty converts the same day he was baptized.

Thank You

I look out my window and begin to cry.
I just wonder why for me my Savior died.
You took the pain and suffering-I don’t deserve Your love-
It is the gift You give from above.

Thank You for the gift You gave to me.
You died so I could become free.
Thank You for the love You showed to me.
It was only through Your grace and Your mercy.

You bled and died upon a tree despite the suffering.
You said, “Satan you have to flee,
You have no part of Me!”
You said, “Father forgive them they know not what they do.”
Oh, yes, You bowed Your head and died,
And three days later, You were alive!

Thank You for the gift You gave to me.
You died so I could become free.
Thank You for love You showed to me.
It was only through Your grace and Your mercy.

Jesus is With Me

Full of fear, what lies ahead,

Is there life, or will I be dead,

The night so dark, I can’t see my way,
If only t’would pass, till light of day,

My hearing’s gone, silence is so loud,
I feel alone, when in a crowd,

But there is hope, I heard someone say,
There’ll be light, you’ll see the day,

So I rest myself, ‘neath joy and peace,
And I’ll say to me, my pain shall cease,

Don’t care anymore, of my troubled days,
I know Jesus is with me, now and always.

Dad

May 21, 1929 a black-haired, blue-eyed baby boy, Charles Edward was born to Marion Wiley and Amanda Elizabeth (Ragsdale) George on a farm near Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. They were a large happy family who cared for their farm and Grandpa was also a postmaster.

Twenty-one months after Dad's birth his Mother and twins died in childbirth. The loss of his wife and babies proved too much for Grandpa, who turned to alcohol to drown the hurt. As so often happens when alcohol becomes the master, Grandpa lost his farm and everything else of value. So Dad and the youngest siblings were alone with very little to eat much of the time.

Dad lied about his age and joined the US Army at seventeen years of age. After two years at sea he was home a short time when he joined the US Navy.

At twenty-one years of age Dad was home from the military and married fifteen-year-old Lavada (Butler). He had followed his Dad's example and turned to alcohol and their marriage was on the rocks when they attended a revival near Walnut Ridge, AR. I was eleven months old when they both found salvation that night and the chains of alcoholism were forever broken over Dad.

Dad and Mom became pastor at Maynard, AR for a time then moved on and started churches in night clubs, storefronts or built churches in other places. They helped to build churches,   they printed tracts about salvation in different languages and supported missionaries in several countries. They lived in Philippines and Brazil for several months in each place to help missionaries there.

I was the oldest of the eleven children who were blessed to call C.E. and Lavada George,  Mom and Dad,  ten by birth and one by adoption. The names are Deb Ryan, Rhonda Bass, Carol (McCain) George, Sherlyn Burnette, Juanetta Gobin, Angela Redd, LaNelda George, Mark George, Anita Huddleston and Joel George. There have also been many who have lived with us for periods of time. At one time we counted nineteen who had lived with us from a few months to several years.

Somehow through God's will we George children were born to "THE MOST WONDERFUL DAD IN THE WORLD."

Why should my brothers, sisters and I be born to a man who loved, and respected us, when thousands, maybe millions are not?

Why should we be born to a 'MAN OF INTEGRITY'? A man who was LOYAL, and HONORABLE? When everyday we see people with anguish in their faces caused by their dad.

How do the children who have been hurt by their dads learn to trust God? When our earthly and heavenly FATHERS are so close in our minds?

How were we chosen to have a Dad who loved us, and wasn't afraid to show it. And he somehow knew the way to show us true love. Not the fake kind that doesn't care to cause hurt to their own children.

How did Dad know the way to be the 'WONDERFUL DAD' he was? From the time he was a toddler his Dad was rarely there for him.

How did Dad know the way to love, and respect, and cherish our Mom? His Mom died when he was a baby.

Dad's love for God and His Word are doubtless the answer to those questions. He spent countless hours reading the Word of God, and one of my fondest memories was when he would lie on the sofa and I would sit nearby and readthe Bible to him. At times I would think he had drifted off to sleep. But, when I mispronounced a word he would correct me.

I truly believe God, through His Word led Dad to be the 'GREAT FATHER AND HUSBAND' he was.

In the hearts of his children Dad is still the 'SHINING LIGHT'. The 'LIGHT' that led us toward God. He taught us the way, and helped us when we strayed, to find the path again. He never made excuses for our wrongs, nor decided that it wasn't wrong because we wanted to do it. But Dad always let us know he loved and believed in us. There was nothing Dad thought we couldn't do.

There is no tribute I know of that would be worthy of such a dedicated Father. There is no honor you could bestow on him that could build DAD higher in our eyes.

"DAD WAS OUR HERO."

He Knows My Frame

Psalm 103 is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible. It speaks of God’s unimaginable love and His plenteous mercy toward us, His children. It is hard for me to understand how God loves us all. He doesn’t love only the sweet, honorable person who is likeable and seems to make all the right choices in life. But, He equally loves the one who seems to hate everyone in their life and who seems intent on making everyone else hate them. Why does God love us equally? What does He see in us that we often don’t see? “He knows our frame”…

How could the fact that “God knows our frame” cause Him to love us and be merciful to us? I thought about that question with the idea in mind of builders building a house. The builders may begin on a beautiful site with the finest materials. Then because of finances, impatience, lack of know-how, or simply inattentiveness bad material is used in the frame, and it is thrown together haphazardly. Even though the house is beautiful outwardly, the frame has been damaged and will need serious and expensive repairs to be safe. The same happens with so many Mom’s and Dad’s who began their family with high hopes for a beautiful future, and bright dreams of what their children would become when they were grown. Then heartache, impatience, lack of know-how or a myriad of events cause them to begin haphazardly throwing the frame together that is the structure for their child’s future. Many children grow up never being aware that they can change, and that their frame can be made strong morally and spiritually.

Our Master Builder recognizes the damage in the frame of His children and recognizes the bad choices that are made because of bad framing. He sees the one who has been sexually abused who thinks the only way they can find love is through promiscuity, or the one who lies, cheats and steals that is seeking the attention they’ve never known, or the person who abuses others because they hope to get rid of some of the pain they have suffered. God still loves those them, though He isn’t content with them to remain like they are. (Like Max Lucado said, “God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way.)

God sees the heartache of parents dying, the abuse, neglect, desertion, or total lack of love that have formed the warped and unsteady frame of the beautiful child we see. He has given us the task of helping with the extensive repairs in the lives of these children so they can grow into adulthood being not only beautiful outwardly, but being structurally safe.
